Packaging Process and Requirements for Successful Filling and Sealing Operations

While in the process of establishing a packing and filling line, there are certain considerations that must be made in establishing a successful liquid filling and packingoperation. In selecting the appropriate liquid filling system, some of the important considerations include;

Product viscosity

It is important to understand the product viscosity as it impacts several areas of the packing system. You may need to recognize if your product is water like, semi viscous, thick, extremely thick. The viscosity affects areas such as the fill rate, nozzles types and other important elements.

Container type

This is an important consideration when looking for an appropriate liquid filling machine. The machine configuration may change when using different types of bottles. Determine whether you are using plastic, round,square, tall or short bottles when determining your filling line.

Fill Volume

The fill volume is critical when determining the type of metering system that will be used in your set up. The fill volume also affects the fill rate and consideration of the product viscosity is also crucial at this point.

Viscous Liquid Filling Machine

The viscous liquid filling machine moves product from a holding tank onto waiting bottles for the filling and sealing operation. Some of the production advantages derived from using the viscous liquid filling machine include;
  • Achievement of consistent and reliable fills
  • Good filling speed is achieved
  • The machines are versatile and can handle different types of bottles and liquids with simple adjustments
  • Easy to use and operate
  • Flexibility; the liquid filling machines are easily integrated with other packaging equipments such as the sticker labeling machines and shrink tunnel and efficient operation can be realized.
  Induction Cap Sealing Machine The incorporation of the induction cap sealing machine in the packaging process serves to enhance the appearance and value of the product. By achieving an air tight seal, good product preservation is achieved as well as a good product appearance. For a good and perfect sealing operation, the container, cap closure, lining material and the induction sealer machine must be well matched. The cap closure needs to be well flat on the inside to be able to hold an induction liner in place.

Cap Types

In the induction sealing process, screw on caps allow for wider range of hard and soft cap lining materials. Snap on caps are generally more suited to softer cap lining material. While using the two part induction sealing material where the foil separates from the backing material, the cap may need to have features that retain the backing material that easily separates with the cap when opened.

Cap Wadding Machine

This equipment is designed to punch round /different shaped wads and liners from a reel and place it onto the plastic of metal caps for airtight sealing. The diameter of the wad is adjustable based on the different types of containers that require sealing.

Conclusion

The success of the filling and packaging process is dependent on good research and design of the packaging equipment. Manufacturers have endeavored to produce accurate and precise equipments that match with today’s filling and sealing processes.
