What Is a Tray Dryer?

A Tray Dryer is a batch drying system used to remove moisture from solid or semi-solid materials like granules, powders, and crystals. It works on the principle of forced hot air circulation, ensuring consistent temperature, efficient drying, and uniform heat distribution across all trays.

The material to be dried is spread on stainless steel trays and placed inside a thermally insulated drying chamber. Heated air is circulated by powerful blowers, and the moist air is expelled through exhaust vents after recirculation—maximizing thermal efficiency and reducing drying time.

How Tray Dryers Work

  1. Air Filtration & Heating:
    Ambient air passes through a 5-micron pre-filter and is heated using electric heaters, steam coils, or thermic fluid systems.

  2. Air Circulation:
    The heated air is evenly distributed across trays using recirculation blowers, maintaining a stable internal environment.

  3. Moisture Evaporation:
    The hot air picks up surface and internal moisture. Moisture evaporates due to capillary diffusion, and part of the humid air is exhausted while the rest is recirculated.

  4. Drying Completion:
    Drying continues until the material reaches the desired moisture level. Trays are then removed using trolleys for cooling or further processing.
